Power League Rules

Please note that quite a few rules below are for a normal non-COVID-19 affected year.  Please read the Power League webpages in their entirely to see how COVID-19 has affected how we intend to run Power League 2021.  We have also tried to clarify the rule-set below specifically for 2021:

  • A paid first official will be supplied for all matches. A coach must be the second referee. If for any reason a first referee is not available, you will be required to supply one.
  • In the 12’s Division, if only one coach is available, they should not serve as the second referee. Instead, the coach should be near the scorer’s table helping the scoring crew. A second coach, if available, should serve as second referee.
  • Warm-ups will be the standard 2-4-4 format.  Two minutes shared ball handling, four minutes on court for serving team, four minutes on court for receiving team.
  • “On court” means the team has exclusive use of the entire court – this applies to all court surfaces and spectator areas.
  • The team that is not “on court” is not allowed to ball handle, pepper, etc. – anywhere.  If you are not “on court”, you are encouraged to shag for your opponent.
  • In Midwest Volleyball Warehouse, the divider curtains between courts, the beam supporting the curtains, and the walls are out of bounds. The remainder of the ceiling is in bounds per USAV rules.
  • The Libero is permitted to serve in all age divisions of the Power League.
  • Due to the large number of people trying to get uniforms at the start of the season we will allow non-matching uniforms during the first three weekends of January.
  • Coaches must show their power league pass or have their names on our written pass list or they will be charged admission.
  • Rules specific to the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse can be viewed by clicking here.
  • Additional rules for the league (especially ones that are division-specific) may be posted on the www.TM2sign.com schedules webpage under the divisions being played.

COVID Clarifications/Additions for 2021:

  • A paid first official will be supplied for all matches.
  • Warm-ups will be the standard 2-4-4 format for the first match of the day only.  Two minutes shared ball handling, four minutes on court for serving team, four minutes on court for receiving team.  There will be no warm-up for Matches #2 or #3.
  • “On court” means the team has exclusive use of the entire court – this applies to all court surfaces and spectator areas.
  • The team that is not “on court” is not allowed to ball handle, pepper, etc. – anywhere.  If you are not “on court”, you are encouraged to shag for your opponent.
  • It is anticipated while COVID-19 restrictions are in place, that the Power League schedule will be Play – Play – 20 minute break – Play.  This removes the need for additional warm-ups.
  • It is also due to this schedule that we highly discourage a significant amount of food from being brought into the building.  Players will be actively playing on the court for most of the time making a food break almost impossible to entertain.
  • Masks are required to be worn into the building by everyone.  The only personnel allowed to remove their masks are players and only after they have taken the court.  They must wear their masks to the court.  Food is not allowed on the courts.  This is another reason that bringing food into the building is highly discouraged.
  • Coaches may be asked to sign-in at the front door.  Each person will be temperature checked upon entering the building.
  • Teams may be asked to supply one scorekeeper per day.  This scorekeeper can be a player, parent or coach.  Final details about this will be emailed at a later date.
  • Rules specific to the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse can be viewed by clicking here.
  • Additional rules for the league (especially ones that are division-specific) may be posted on the www.TM2sign.com schedules webpage under the divisions being played.
  • These rules may change as the guidelines by the state/governor change during the season.
  • Currently there are no spectators allowed into the building.
