January Thaw

Girls 12’s, 13’s, 14’s, 15’s, 16’s

17’s and 18’s should register to play in the Northern Lights Qualifier which is running at the same time.

This tournament does allow regional age-waivered teams.

Teams/players need to be registered with USAV to participate in this event.

Canadian teams are also welcome to attend this event.


Friday, January 31: All teams will play Friday at 3:30pm or 6:30pm.

Saturday, February 1: All teams will play on either a morning wave or an afternoon wave.

Sunday, February 2: Bracket day. The last matches of the tournament are scheduled to end at 4pm.


Pool play on Friday & Saturday followed by bracket play on Sunday.

The tournament will supply “up” officials for all courts.


Registration for this event will open in October 1, 2019 at 9:00 am Central Time.

The entry fee for this event is $495. Deadline for entry is December 20, 2019 or earlier if capacity is reached.

Tournament Information


All administration of this event (registration, payment, seeding and schedules) will be on the www.TM2sign.com website.

Registration will open on Monday, October 1, 2019 at 9:00am Central Time.

To enter the Northern Lights January Thaw:

  1. Go to the website www.TM2sign.com and complete your online registration.
  2. Either pay online or mail us the entry form and a check (follow instructions on TM2sign).
  3. We will automatically collect any results your teams have from the big three scheduling sites:  TM2sign, Advanced Event Systems (AES) and SportsWrench.  If you have other results you would like to be considered in our seeding, please submit them manually in TM2sign by January 22, 2020.

All registration is to be completed online.  The registration deadline for us receiving the registration and payment is December 20, 2019.  All entries received after this date will be considered on a space available basis.  Registration may close early for a division that has reached capacity.

Wave Schedule

Here are the expected starting times for Friday January 31.  These times are not definite until the official schedule is published.  All out-of-town teams should travel to play at 3:30 pm regardless of the table below.

We will attempt to publish the entire schedule on Monday January 27th, but it could be as late as Tuesday evening January 28th.


Stay and Play will not be enforced for the January Thaw.  If your team requires hotel rooms to attend this tournament, finding and booking the rooms can be completed by the club/team independent of the tournament.

Team Check-In Location & Times

There is no coaches meeting for this tournament.

Check-In will take place between 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm on Friday, January 31.  The coach or club director who is performing the check-in should arrive to check-in at least 1.5 hours before the first match on Friday.

The Check-In location will be in the main lobby area.

In order to check-in, A team must bring the check-in form printed from TM2sign.com.  An example of that form can viewed here.


At team check-in each team will be given wristbands for rostered players. Unique rostered coaching staff, up to a maximum of 3 per team, will be given wristbands.  Players will need to wear/show their wristbands to gain entrance to the court area.  Coaches and all other spectators are required to wear their wristbands at all times.  Wristbands must be worn on the wrist.


Referee information will be available in December 2019.  Please check back at that time.

Practice times

Due to the starting times of event and our set up, there are no practice times available on Friday at the Convention Center.

Athletic Trainers

Athletic Trainers provided by Sports and Orthopaedic Specialists will be on duty at the Convention Center starting 45 minutes prior to the first match. Look for the large “Medical” flag to locate them in the court area.

Spectator Admission

In order to keep the team entry fee low, the January Thaw Tournament is charging an admission for spectators at the Convention Center.

Tickets will be available both online and at the venue.  More details will be posted at a later date.

Players and coaches will be issued wristbands at team check in.
