Coaching Bio:
 
  • 1982: Started coaching a boys Junior team under the direction of Jake Lacis.
  •  
  • 1983: Glen Lietzke, the founder of girls North Country Jrs, left and Curt agreed to run the program which had only one team of seniors. From 1983-89 Curt coached a number of teams ranging in age from 14 - 19 and grew the program to 8 teams at all ages.
  •  
  • 1985: Walt Weaver & Curt made a presentation to USAV to get the USJO Nationals here in Minnesota. In 1986 Curt ran the USJO Nationals at Macalester College. At that time it was the largest Jr Nationals ever with 186 teams and 19 courts.

  • 1987: Started the Minnesota Festival with 50 teams. Grew to over 260 teams at it's peak. By spawning so much growth in Jr Volleyball and other events in MN, the MN Festival become a victim of it's own success and ran for the last time in 2002.

  • 1991: Moved the Midwest Qualifier from Chicago to Mpls and renamed it the Northern Lights National Qualifier. 1996 the NLQ was moved to the NSC with 12 cts. 1999 moved into the Mpls Conven. Center with 31 cts. 2004 the NLQ had 82 courts and 592 teams.

  • 1992: Curt left his full time job in Int'l Marketing at the Toro Company, to run the catalog business Midwest Volleyball Warehouse with his sister and to design/build "the warehouse". In 1993 MVW opened with 6 courts and as permanent home for a

  • 1993 Curt joined together with several other top coaches in the area, and formed Northern Lights Juniors which is headquartered at Midwest Volleyball Warehouse.

  • From 1993 - 2012: Curt has coached teams ranging in age from 11-18, and co-directs the club with Adam Beamer. The club has had 6-29 teams, and has seen more than 2500 players. Four players from Northern Lights have gone onto the USA National Team.

    Playing Bio:
     
  • Started playing volleyball in 1978 when 2 girls at the dorm I lived in taught me how to play real volleball.
  •  
  • Played on numerous indoor Coed and Men's teams, and outdoor sand doubles, from 1979-1989 with the highest level being with a Men's AA USAV team as a setter/hitter.
  •  
  • I have retired from playing competitive volleyball and now only play on a women's net with the Juniors.

    Education:
     
  • Graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  •  
  • Worked for 13 years with the Toro Company, 9 years as an engineer and 4 years in International Marketing.

    Personal Bio:
     
  • Together with his sister owns Midwest Volleyball Warehouse, the 2nd largest mail order catalog company in the nation for volleyball equipment.
  •  
  • In his spare time he enjoy traveling around the world, golfing, fishing in Florida and in Canada and running large volleyball tournaments.
